While cooler weather sweeps the north, northern Vancouver Island is heating things up. The World Rowing Coastal Champions are coming to North America for the first time and it’s an event you won’t want to miss. In addition to the once in a lifetime event, explore island art and some food for thought at the psychic and storytelling events.

2018 World Rowing Coastal Championship

Sidney, BC will be the first location in North America to host the World Rowing Coastal Championship - an international event that will dominate the coast from October 11 to 14. Watch the thrilling races surrounded by a spectacular scenery of snow-capped mountains and rocky islands. Racers are travelling from around the world, from Brazil, Denmark, Spain, Peru, South Africa, USA and more, to compete in the championship. Check out the World Rowing Coastal Championship site to stay up to date on details as the event approaches.

Island Artisans Annual Show

This annual show held at ArtSea Gallery in Tulista Park begins October 6 and runs until December 22 with contemporary and traditional works by island artisans on display. Experience the jewelry, glass, pottery, turned wood, fibre art, wearables, photography and holiday decor of the island. It’s not only a show, and there’s the opportunity to purchase goods and bring a piece of the island back with you. For more information check out the ArtSea Community Arts Council site.

Psychic and Spiritual Arts Fair

Take time from exploring the island to explore the world of psychics. On October 6 at the Mary Winspear Centre, get the answers to your questions from psychic readers, mediums, spiritual energy healers, tarot card readers and more. There will also be tons of related goodies, like spiritual jewelry on display. Tickets are $5 at the door and you reach out to the organizers for more information.

Mental Health Storytelling – The Connection Project

Continue to explore your inner world with The Connection Project, an event highlighting stories of mental wellbeing through performances, spoken word, visuals and poetry. Engage in conversations about our collective mental health and find solace on a Saturday evening. The event begins at 7pm on October 6 and is located at the Mary Winspear Centre - the same place where the Psychic Spiritual Arts Fair is taking place. Tickets are $15 with proceeds going to Saanich Peninsula Youth Clinic, and you can learn more about The Connection Project in the meantime.
