Known as an idyllic place to retire, the shores of Sidney, BC are a sight to behold. But don’t think we don’t keep busy! Here are just a few of the upcoming events we’re looking forward to in the new year!

Taking place at the Victoria Curling Club, the 2018 BC Scotties Women’s Curling Tournament will take place from January 2-7 to determine which of BC’s curling teams will compete at this year’s Canadian Curling Championship. Curling is one of the most quintessentially Canadian sports, and these women exemplify the high standard of competition and sportsmanship set by Canadian curling teams on the international stage. This is a fun, family-friendly event for everyone out there who knows how to “HURRY HARD!” Details available here.

Canadian folk legend Valdy is coming to the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney, BC! Perhaps best known for his hit “Rock and Roll Song,” Valdy has been winning over audiences all over the world for over 40 years, and became a member of the Order of Canada in 2011. We couldn’t be more excited to see him on January 13. Find out more here!

The world mourned when it lost Pete Seeger in 2014. The folk singer was equal parts archivist and activist, collecting classic folk tunes and singing them to help hip people to a vision of justice and a better tomorrow. And, although he passed, you can be sure that his legacy lives on, not least of all in this The Incompleat Folksinger, a one-man stage show by Mark Hellman who channels Seeger by recounting the details of Seeger’s life, as well as by performing of the songs that made him famous. An instant classic of musical theatre, The Incompleat Folksinger is a must-see for music aficionados. Takes place January 14, details here.
