For many, September means back-to-school, but it’s also a great time to travel! Things get a little less busy, but around these parts, September weather is beautiful. So why not mix a little academia with a little bit of fresh air? Take in a fantastic local production of some Shakespearean classics at stunning outdoor venues in and around Sidney.
Presented by the Vancouver Island Shakespeare Arts, this three-day affair kicks off at The Roost in North Saanich, located between Sidney and Victoria and just a few minutes from our hotel. Spend the evening enjoying some great live theatre under the tents, complete with comfortable armchair seating and complimentary blankets for cooler weather. Watch “Othello” on Thursday, September 8 at 7 p.m., Saturday, September 10 at 2 p.m. or Sunday, September 11 at 2 p.m. For something a little lighter, see “Much Ado About Nothing” on Friday, September 9 at 7 p.m., Saturday, September 10 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, September 11 at 7 p.m. The Roost is wheelchair accessible.
Speaking of The Roost, what a great place to check out, regardless of the Shakespeare performances! The Roost is 10 acres of loveliness, complete with a bakery and café serving farm-to-table produce and treats, including wheat grown and milled on-site. Enjoy a beautiful glass of estate wine or cool cup of lemonade, and pick up some treats to bring home – gluten-free and vegan options are available. An added bonus: This summer, The Roost is firing up the wood oven for wood-fired pizzas and breads – yum! The Roost is open Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and weekends from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Stay close to The Roost and all the other great Victoria attractions at Best Western Plus Emerald Isle hotel, located between downtown Victoria and the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal. Book now and start planning your fall getaway to Vancouver Island!
